is a design firm whose practice is built upon letters. The studio's work encompasses wordmarks, digital typeface design, custom lettering and expressive typography.

Peter Bain

is principal of Incipit. His work has been recognized in Letter Arts Review, AIGA's 50 Books, the Type Directors Club competition and Communication Arts Design Annual.

Prior to founding Incipit, he was Type Director at Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising in New York for more than a decade. Bain has taught typography and lettering at both Parsons/The New School for Design and Pratt Institute, and served on the board of directors of the TDC and the Society of Scribes. He is currently in the MFA Design/Visual Communications program at Virginia Commonwealth University, and is a member of AIGA, the American Printing History Association, and ATypI.

Bain's interest in letters has led to research and writing. His lectures and publications are fashioned with the intent of deepening our understanding of typography and its many contexts.
